So what is my Wordless Picture Book Project all about?
Seeing as how it is part of the Human Centered Design Thinking module, it can't be as straight forward as just illustrating a children's book with no words right? You would be absolutely correct in this regard: so let me explain...
The Wordless Picture Book Project
The Dithakga tša Gobala (Reading Champions) project aims to cultivate a love of books, reading and storytelling amongst South African children through the use of picture books with no words. This is because we want all children, regardless of literacy levels, age or home language to be able to engage with and share these stories on an equal plane.
The stories themselves have been sourced from small communities around South Africa. Community members were asked to tell a story, and give this and some references to South African Illustrators to transform the story into a wordless picture book.

So what do I have to do?
So I function as the illustrator in this project. I get given a story (which will hopefully be lovely), and then I am going to illustrate it.
But what about the human centered design part, you might ask? Well that bit is up to me.
I have to complete interviews and research before I can figure out what I want to do, but it needs to be something that is an 'add on' to the project. I need to help it either achieve it's goals better or create another deliverable(s) to help promote / sell / grow the project.
Where to from here?
I'd love to tell you but I don't know! I need to run away and do some research before I can even begin to think about that bit! What I can do, is share some of the already existing wordless picture books from the project, that have inspired me or just been really cool
You can find all of the books HERE
